Byram Township Intermediate School is collaborating with other schools, as well as partners from the private and public sectors by participating in the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Made in the USA project.
This project helps manufacture and distribute PPE to hospitals who are in desperate need for these supplies for healthcare workers during this time of crisis.
When I was asked to join this important project, I put a call out to my principal, John Fritzky, who reached out to Superintendent Bryan Hensz. Byram administrators were immediately on board! I was given permission to take the three school MakerBot 3D printers home and use all the remaining filament I had on hand in my lab.
The 3D printers have been running in my “at home STEM lab” since Sunday and have produced 47 headbands to date.
Each headband takes approximately three hours to print. They are then passed off for the next stage of production and finally delivery to various hospitals.
Byram is just so proud to play a small part of a much larger picture. True credit goes to my friend, Jim Hofmann from Newton who is the lead coordinator of the effort and to all the generous benefactors who help make this possible.
Slow and steady, together we hope to make a difference!!!
