My fifth-grade teaching partner, Jason Vastano, and I decided to think outside the box. We created hands-on activity bags for students so they could take a little technology break and show their creative side!
Inside each bag was a piece of chalk for writing positive messages on the sidewalk or driveway outside their house to offer encouragement to those who walk by.
We also included materials to create a book mark, to remind – and encourage – our students to read.
We included instructions for a science lesson on bubbles and included a bottle of bubbles to get them outside in the fresh air.
Inside the bag, students also found a lesson on how to create a mini health poster on how to prevent the spread of germs.
We added a blank card and an envelope for letter writing.
Once we compiled the activity bags, we door-dashed the bags to each of the students’ houses!
The waves from the windows, the thank you signs on the doors and lawns, and the snacks left for us made us realize just how lucky we are to teach in Monmouth Beach NJ. It was a fulfilling and positive learning experience for all involved!
